Caution should be taken when you experience any life-threatening or overwhelming event in relation to you reaching out for counselling. We suggest that you do not attend counselling for at least one month after the event. The reason for this is that your body and mind needs time to adjust to the event you have experienced. If after a month your symptoms have not resolved sufficiently so as not to be impacting on your day to day living then counselling is one very effective way forward. If you have received a diagnosis of P.T.S.D. then it would be beneficial to receive therapy sooner rather than later.
These are just some of the effects of P.T.S.D. but your doctor will be the person to offer such a diagnosis. Counselling is not used to diagnose the disorder but to help a client heal from its effects through trauma informed therapy.
Our goal is to assist each client to get back your life to an even keel, through understanding, compassion and belief in the client's ability to resolve the distressing issues. Traumatic events may be one off events or many small background stressors that build up over time. The results of which leave the client overwhelmed and in emotional distress.
Those suffering with P.T.S.D. often report that they have many symptoms that leave an overall sense of feeling unsafe and having a loss of hope.
