Psychotherapy:
Psychotherapy is very much linked and compared to Counselling. There are both similarities as well as differences between the two. Psychotherapy in ordinary terms is perceived to go deeper and longer in its application with the client. Some clients present with longstanding and deep issues that take considerable work to heal from. However, Psychotherapy is essentially an overarching term which encompasses a lot of other disciplines such as counselling.

The framework that the psychotherapeutic process brings has the ability to go deeper into a clients issues. For example a person who experiences the loss of a job might engage in counselling on a short term basis while a person who has suffered considerable neglect , trauma or sexual abuse may take more time exploring what has happened in the past and how it is currently affecting them in the present.
